Meta Launches Super Burst and First Impression Ads: A Brand Advertising Revolution

Have you ever felt like your ads are getting lost in a sea of content on the News Feed? Every day, Facebook and Instagram users face hundreds of posts, videos, news updates, and advertisements. How do you make sure your brand isn't just seen, but remembered?

Meta understands that pain point. And on October 15, 2026, at the Brand Building Summit, they announced a series of new tools designed to tackle marketing's toughest challenge head-on: how to capture customer attention during the most critical moments.

Join me, SilverZ, having witnessed Facebook grow from its earliest days into a giant advertising empire over the past 20 years, as I dissect each new tool and see whether they truly change the game.

Super Burst Ads: When Advertising Needs to "Explode" in 24 Hours

Imagine you are preparing for a major product launch. You have the budget, you have the message, and you have a short window to make maximum impact. But how do you ensure that during that time, your brand takes center stage without being drowned out by competitors?

That is the problem Super Burst Ads were created to solve. This is an ad format that allows brands to book a focused time frame ranging from 3 to 24 hours to reach a massive audience at TV-like scale, complete with an option for industry exclusivity.

What makes this special is that during the pre-booked time slot, no competitor in the same industry can book that exact same window. You own that golden hour entirely. This is a significant step forward, because previously, brands wanting such exclusivity had to spend millions of dollars on television commercials during major sporting events.

Meta stated that pioneer advertisers using this format achieved an average increase of 2.9 points in ad recall and reached approximately 34 million people per campaign. Super Burst Ads are rolling out gradually to become a mainstream feature this month.

First Impression Ads: The First Ad Placement of the Day

Meta Launches Super Burst and First Impression Ads: A Brand Advertising Revolution

If Super Burst Ads give you ownership of a time frame, First Impression Ads give you ownership of the very first moment.

Think about this: every morning, when millions of users open the Facebook app for the first time, they will see a single advertisement in the top position on their News Feed. With First Impression Ads, only one advertiser per day can claim that prime real estate. No competition, no distraction. Just your brand and the user.

This is the most exclusive ad placement Meta has ever offered. Currently, this feature is being tested in the US, limited to a single brand per day. Inventory is extremely scarce: an estimated fewer than 30 slots in November in the US.

This means if you want to secure this placement during Black Friday or Cyber Monday, you need to contact the Meta team immediately. This is not a self-serve ad via Ads Manager, but a premium product requiring booking through Meta's account management team.

For major brands, this is an opportunity to assert their presence in consumers' minds right from the opening moments of the day. For smaller brands, this may be a distant dream — but at the very least, it shows that Meta is increasingly dividing its advertising segments.

Expanded Reels Trending Ads: Riding the Cultural Wave

While Super Burst Ads and First Impression Ads focus on owning the moment, Reels Trending Ads take a completely different approach: riding the wave.

Instead of trying to build attention from scratch, Reels Trending Ads allow brands to appear right after the most trending Reels videos on Facebook and Instagram. These are videos being watched, shared, and discussed by millions. By placing your ad right after them, your brand becomes part of the ongoing cultural conversation.

Meta has significantly expanded options for this format. Advertisers can now choose from 15 evergreen content topics, including new categories like Home & Garden and Spanish-language content, alongside seasonal topics like holidays, football, and basketball.

The results are encouraging. Meta reports that campaigns featuring Reels Trending Ads generated a more than 5 percentage point increase in action intent compared to unexposed control groups, along with a 5-point lift in unaided brand awareness. These are not small figures in a market where every percentage point counts.

Interestingly, Meta also plans to add custom audience exclusions later this year, giving advertisers more flexibility in controlling who sees their ads.

Aggregated View Time: Measuring Attention in a Whole New Way

Perhaps the most revolutionary change, however, is not found in the ad formats, but in how we measure effectiveness.

For years, the video advertising industry has been obsessed with a single metric: views. A video is considered "successful" if it reaches a certain view count. But this measurement method is outdated. It fails to reflect how users actually consume short-form video content.

Meta is testing a new measurement tool called Aggregated View Time. Instead of counting individual views separately, this tool measures the total time a user spends interacting with a brand's content over the course of a week. It aggregates short interactions together to create a more comprehensive picture of attention.

Meta's research reveals something astonishing: 5 seconds of attention accumulated across multiple exposures can deliver higher value than a single continuous 5-second view. Specifically, their research reports a 32% increase in offline sales when comparing the two approaches.

What does this mean? It means a user scrolling past your ad 10 times, for half a second each time, may generate a greater impact than a user watching your ad once for 5 seconds. That is a complete shift in how we think about attention.

Aggregated View Time is currently in early alpha testing, but its potential is massive. If rolled out widely, it could change how brands evaluate the effectiveness of short-form video content, thereby transforming how they allocate budgets and design campaigns.

Why These Changes Matter to Vietnamese Marketers

You might be thinking: "These are features for the US market, what about Vietnam?"

It is true that Super Burst Ads and First Impression Ads are not yet deployed in Vietnam. However, these changes serve as an important signal regarding Meta's direction in the near future.

First, Meta is increasingly clearly differentiating between advertiser tiers. Premium formats like Super Burst Ads and First Impression Ads are meant for large-budget brands seeking exclusive moments. This means small and medium-sized brands need to focus more heavily on efficiency and creativity to compete.

Second, the shift in measurement — from views to accumulated attention time — will influence how Vietnamese brands design video content. Instead of trying to keep users hooked during a single long view, you may need to focus on creating short, impactful, memorable moments so users can engage repeatedly.

Third, Reels are becoming the center of Meta's advertising ecosystem. With over half of Instagram time spent on Reels and 80% of Gen Z users purchasing from a business after watching a Reel, investing in short-form video content on this platform is no longer optional — it is a prerequisite for survival.

Strategy for Marketers: What to Do Right Now?

Even though these new features are not yet available in Vietnam, you can prepare starting today:

1. Invest in High-Quality Reels Content

Reels are the future of video advertising on Meta. Start building short-form video production capabilities right now. Focus on scroll-stopping videos in the first 3 seconds with a clear, memorable message.

2. Prepare for Measurement Shifts

When Aggregated View Time becomes the standard, metrics like views and completion rates will matter less. Start tracking the total attention time your brand receives from each campaign, rather than focusing solely on view counts.

3. Build a Strategy for Key Moments

If you have a budget, start planning for major moments like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or product launches. Even if Super Burst Ads are not yet available in Vietnam, you can apply the mindset of "concentrating budgets into a short timeframe" to generate maximum impact.

4. Experiment with New Ad Formats

Meta continuously updates new ad formats. Be the first to experiment when they roll out in Vietnam. Pioneers often gain cost and efficiency advantages before the market becomes saturated.

When Attention Becomes the Most Precious Asset

I have witnessed the digital advertising industry go through quite a few revolutions over the past two decades. From the days when ad banners dominated, to the rise of video, and then to the era of short-form content and AI. Each step forward brings new opportunities and challenges.

The tools Meta just launched are not just new features. They represent a new philosophy of advertising: attention is no longer measured in seconds, but in accumulated value. And in a world where consumers are increasingly distracted, understanding how they interact with your brand — even in brief moments — will be the ultimate competitive advantage.

As I often tell my students: advertising is not about what you say, but about how you make people feel. And in the era of fragmented attention, brands that know how to create accumulated impressions — rather than isolated moments — will be the winners.

What do you think about Meta launching premium ad formats like Super Burst Ads and First Impression Ads — is it an inevitable step to meet market demand, or a growing divide between large and small brands? And if you are a marketer in Vietnam, how will you prepare right now so you aren't left behind when these tools roll out in the region? Share your thoughts below, because in this advertising game, whoever understands attention best wins!
